Growing up is hard to do
In our youth we frolic and play
But eventually me and you
Must grow up with bills to pay
While we age too quickly it can seem
Our civilization takes much longer
While grown ups work and children dream
We help each other grow stronger
But the more we put off becoming an adult
To remain carefree without responsibility
We only end up adding injury to insult
Better to reach for and gain dependability
By facing the music together we grow
Setting our goals with focus of mind
By facing the music the better we know
To concentrate so we don’t fall behind
Our society can’t just run itself
It takes citizens to register and vote
You can learn a lot from a bookshelf
But it takes more than that to stay afloat
As citizens we reach out to our congressmen
We can write emails or send them letters
It should be part of us like breathing oxygen
We can look up to and be like our betters
By facing the music together we grow
Setting our goals with focus of mind
By facing the music the better we know
To concentrate so we don’t fall behind
